Why We Made Faithfully Gay
This film looks at the intersection between homosexuality and faith. LGBTQ issues have been a popular media topic for several years, but we felt that the tie to faith was an aspect that remained uncovered. This documentary topic was chosen as our senior Capstone project because we are passionate about raising awareness to the issues presented. We want this film to start a conversation and spark a deeper discussion.
It was vital to our documentary to choose subjects who reflected opposite ends of the spectrum. Faithfully Gay presents an array of opinions and personal beliefs. We spoke with two openly gay TCU students and two openly gay staff members at our university. These individuals were chosen due to their involvement at both TCU and the Fort Worth area as a whole. Todd Boling, one of our subjects, provided us with the unique perspective as an openly gay reverend.
We also had the opportunity to interview two brothers, who gave us their view on the issues of discussion. Mitchell and Spencer Traver, who run a website together, discussed their views on homosexuality and faith. Both brothers are accepting of the gay community, but believe there should that the gay community and religious community should not be tied.
Pastor Donnie Romero was also included in our documentary. Unfortunately, we were unable to interview Romero, but still felt his strong beliefs needed to be included. The pastor works at Stedfast Baptist Church in Fort Worth.
